Preview & Predictions: 2019-20 Premier League Season
The Premier League is back! Read on for our full preview and predictions for the 2019-20 campaign.
Ah, the start of the new season...
New signings, new kits, and a fresh start for all 20 Premier League teams, including 3 new ones: Aston Villa, Norwich City, and Sheffield United.
Last season was a fierce battle that went down to the final day when Manchester City edged Liverpool to claim their 4th Premier League title.
Who will win it this year? Which clubs will finish in the top 4 and secure a place in the Champions League? Who will win the coveted Golden Boot for scoring the most goals? And, whose fans will be crying when they get relegated to the Championship?
After hours of, sometimes heated, deliberation at Pelé HQ, here are our predictions for the 2019-20 Premier League season.
Winner
Manchester City
It's no secret that Manchester City is the club to beat. The blue side of Manchester have celebrated 2 consecutive Premier League titles, and 4 of the last 8.
City have a deep squad, deeper pockets, and possibly the best manager in world football. They did lose their former captain and center back, Vincent Kompany, but with Pep directing an all-star cast, we are predicting a Man City 3peat.
Top 4 - Champions League
Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Arsenal
There is one thing we all agreed on: Manchester City and Liverpool are pretty much a lock to finish in the top 4 this season.
The other two spots were harder to predict. Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are all in the mix.
We are going with Spurs in 3rd.
The Champions League runner ups have a new stadium and training ground, plus Daniel Levy finally opened his checkbook to bring in promising talents like Ndombele, Lo Celso, and Sessegnon.
Only one more position is available in the top 4.
Can Lampard inspire Chelsea to overcome a transfer ban and the loss of Hazard? Or are either Arsenal's or Manchester United's new signings enough to boost them back into the Champions League?
Our prediction is Arsenal.
The Gunners have the attacking power to score goals and Unai Emery's side had a strong transfer window adding Ceballos, Pepe, Saliba, Tierney, and David Luiz. If they can keep the ball out of the net, they are definitely capable of a top 4 finish.
5th & 6th - Europa League
Manchester United and Chelsea
It's crazy to think that mega-clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea might not be able to crack into the top 4. It just goes to show the quality of the Premier League.
We're picking Manchester United to finish 5th mainly due to the reinforcements they made to their backline over the summer with the addition of Maguire and Wan-Bissaka.
If United are going to return to their glory days, Pogba has a lot to prove on the pitch, as does Ole at the wheel.
We're putting Chelsea in 6th, the final Europa League slot.
Even with Lampard returning to lead his beloved Blues, the club was unable to bring in new players because of a transfer ban, and let's not forget the team has a gaping Hazard sized hole in it.
Relegated
Brighton, Norwich City, and Sheffield United
Relegation is a necessary evil of the game. Sorry to the pro/rel haters out there.
It's rare that all 3 newly promoted teams stay up, and we're predicting that both Norwich City and Sheffield United go back to the Championship next year along with Brighton after 3 years in the top flight.
Golden Boot
Sergio Agüero
Agüero is arguably the best striker on the best team in the league. It's been 4 seasons since the Argentine striker finished the campaign with the most goals, and if he can stay healthy, we think he's overdue to win it again.
Conclusion
And there you have it. Our 2019-20 Premier League predictions.
We may have argued about it for many long hours, and we'll most definitely be wrong on some counts, but the unpredictable nature of the game is one of the things that makes The Beautiful Game beautiful.
There is one thing we know for sure, and you'll definitely agree...we can't wait to watch the season unfold.
What are your predictions? How do you think your favorite club will get on? Whether you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comments!
